Ok, so I've struggled with my cushions in the 61 Shasta Compact. First I tried to sew some sort of like pillow cases and that just didn't work well. So I went back to an idea I had when I recovered this vintage metal crib seat. Looks pretty good right? Nice and smooth with the fabric on there snug? The answer is simply safety pins! HA HA! Oh and lots of … [Read more...]
61 Shasta Compact Interior Decorating
For the last few days I've spent working on decorating the interior of the Compact. I started out working on cushion covers (a nighmare I might add and eventually I think I'll have to have them professionally done). Next came sewing curtains and that was a breeze. Then on to painting the interior cupboards and drawer fronts. I went with a soft aqua or robin egg blue … [Read more...]
For the little girl camper that has it all!
Ok, now this is just too cute! Perfect for the little girl that loves VW's or camping. These look to be available in the UK here. Not sure if they are available in the U.S. or not. I bet a handi-person could build something similiar though. … [Read more...]
All about Glamping
Ok, so I just recently discovered this term; Glamping and had to investigate more. Glamping combines the word glamor and camping. The idea is basically camping but with some of the more luxurious amenities. Personally, I would love one of these tents as a backyard retreat. Can you imagine having one with a featherbed and maybe even a clawfoot bathtub? They remind me … [Read more...]
New Rope and Pole Awning
As promised...I finally got a picture of the awning on the 61 Shasta Compact. Isn't it cute? It was a bit windy but I was determined to get the awning up and secure. As you can see it was flapping in the wind a bit. Fortunately, the trailer didn't take flight (: I love having an awning as I think they are great additions to any vintage trailer. … [Read more...]
How to convert two single beds into one large bed in a Shasta Compact
If you have a dinette like this in your trailer (Ours is a canned ham shaped 61 Shasta Compact) that doesn't allow you to pull these benches together you can make a couple modifications and it will create one huge bed. Notice mine doesn't have any legs like the newer boxy Compacts usually do. I know my cushions are 6 ft long and the trailer is what...6 feet wide? So … [Read more...]
Wee Shasta gets a new awning
I was tickled that Marti of Marti's Awnings had a yellow/white striped awning in stock so of course I snatched it up. The only difference between this one in the picture below and ours is ours has fringes. So cute! I'm still deciding...and struggling with what the interior decor/colors should be. Right now the interior is too sterile looking for my taste. It … [Read more...]

61 Shasta Compact gets a new paint job!
I was sent this photo today and wanted to share it with you all. She's looking great! As you can see we decided to keep her the original yellow. She has a new yellow counter and table top as well so we wanted to stick with the original color scheme. Today she'll have her wheels painted white and then once she gets back to the restroration shop they will put back in … [Read more...]
61 Shasta Compact Exterior Door Rebuild
The restoration guys are rebuilding the door on the 61 Shasta Compact. It was in bad shape and needed new skin so they are re-creating a new frame. It will also have a new lock/key like the original. Should be very nice when finished. The wee Shasta goes in for a new paint job next week. We decided to stick with the original yellow. I can't wait to see it when it's … [Read more...]
